One of the best things about being a photographer is the constant stream of incredibly talented creatives I get to meet, work with and befriend on a daily basis! One of them is Lauren from Laurel & Lace ( an amazing Canberra florist ) who brought us all together for this Autumn inspired editorial for White Magazine issue 35. It's always such a joy to work with such talent, but when the team is this good, and this fun to work with, it makes it even more special. So here it is - along with some lovely profile pieces on each of the vendors involved with big thanks to White Magazine!! x

ASHLEA & BEN

From Ashlea's very first email to me, I knew that photographing her & her hubby for their anniversary was going to be something pretty special. Their story really touched me - here is a snippet of that first beautiful email from Ashlea:

"We met while Ben was traveling with his band in America. They happened to be staying near my University that I attended at the time and different circumstances brought us both to the same bar on the same night. We locked eyes that night, Ben coyly came over and charmed me with his Australian accent and the rest is really just history.

We spent nearly our entire relationship apart, communicating mostly through Skype and FaceTime. We would visit each other for a few weeks at a time every 6 months; those were always the sweetest weeks. Ben surprised me in November of 2012 by showing up at my apartment in America when I thought he was supposed to be on a camping trip back home in Australia! It was a week after that surprise that he hit me with another one when he took me back to the park in which we had our first date and proposed to me amongst a bed of fairy lights and flowers.

Our engagement led to our marriage and our marriage led to us settling down in Perth. We relish in the fact that we now get to bask in the wonderfulness that is spending time together and knowing that we don't have to turn around and say goodbye a few, short weeks later."

To celebrate their one year anniversary, they spent some time in the beautiful Snow Mountains & Thredbo, in one of the historic & beautiful cabins at Moonbah Huts. I'm so inspired by them and their genuine devotion for each other and I'm so grateful that I was able to be there to capture just one day of their incredible love story.

The song below is one from Ben's band Death and a Cure. I thought that it only fitting to share it along with the photos from this day. It's the second track on the album Red Sky Night. In ben's own words:

"This album was written during the long distance relationship that culminated in me marrying the love of my life. Red Sky Night as in shepherds delight was an idea I had to keep me thinking about the incredible times together with her that were waiting around the corner. I didn't want to focus on the hardships of being apart for so long, so instead I created this."

RIVERINA MAKEUP ARTIST

GYPSYGIRL BEAUTY

Meeting talented creatives is one of my favourite parts of being a photographer. But this beautiful creative goes way beyond just a business associate. Alison has become one of my most dear friends and it is all because of one tiny email that she sent me a few years ago. She has the type of warmth and welcome that means you just can't help but become incredible friends with her! She is just all-round awesome!! So today I would love to share with you her wonderful talents.

Alison owns and operates Gypsygirl Beauty. She is based in The Riverina area of NSW and travels near and far to pamper brides on their wedding day. And she is incredible at it! Having worked with her on so many weddings & editorial shoots I have seen first hand how talented she is and in particular how much fun her clients have getting ready for their wedding. I took some time to chat with Alison about her business. I'd love for you to discover Gypsygirl Beauty!

Tell us a bit about yourself: Hi I'm Ali!! I'm a makeup artist based in a gorgeous little rural town Temora, in NSW. I am a bit of a gypsy at heart, and travel all over doing makeup for weddings. My most cherished role in life is being a wife, and mother to my beautiful little boys Nate and Tristan!!!  I love romance novels, vintage clothes, red lipstick  and almond magnums... I can't get enough of them at the moment!!!

Why did you originally choose makeup artistry as a career: I originally studied makeup in Sydney when I was also studying music and did a lot of makeup for bands and pin up photo-shoots. After I married my love and moved to the country, I became obsessed with weddings and really wanted to return to my creative side, so when my son Nate was born I took the plunge and launched Gypsygirl Beauty, focusing on weddings and special occasion makeup.

What do you like best about doing bridal makeup on a wedding day: I absolutely love weddings, I am an old fashioned romantic, and I feel it is a great privilege to be a part of such a special day in peoples lives joining in with all the excitement and laughter! All brides just glow with happiness and I love bringing out each and everyone's natural beauty.

What are some of your most favourite products: Some of my favourite products are MAC's black rack gel liner. I am a huge fan of the vintage flick so it is used a lot!!! I also love young bloods brow pallet as I am obsessed with eyebrows as they frame the eyes. For bridal I can't go past the creamy 'Athena' lipstick by Napoleon.

Do you have any tips for people choosing a MUA: My top tips for choosing a MUA is to take a look at examples of their work first to see if the style that they like is the one you are trying to achieve.  Always organise a makeup trial to ensure you are getting the look you are after for your special day as well as the opportunity to meet and get to know your artist!!

You can see more of Alison's beautiful work at her website and blog.

If you are on the hunt for the perfect MUA I can whole heatedly recommend her!!! x

WHITE MAGAZINE ISSUE 20

COVER & FEATURE

Thicker + Large Diamond Divider - Colour Edit 0.png

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter, then you will no doubt have already seen my utter crazy, jumping for joy excitement recently. I am completely blown away and feel so honoured to share that my work is featured on the cover of Issue 28 of White Magazine!

My beautiful couple Tamara & David eloped in the Crowdy Bay National Park at the end of last year. It was such an intimate wedding. Sunrise, on-top of a cliff over looking the ocean, and just the three of us exploring the beaches and forest surrounds all day. Pure magic! I am thrilled to share some of the details from their day that are currently featured inside issue 28 of White! If you haven't gone out and bought this issue I really recommend it. It's filled with so much love and inspiration.

I am still pinching myself to see if it's real, and I am always excited when I walk past the newsagents and see it on display. Especially as White magazine was so special to me during my own wedding planning experience. I never would have thought that one day my work would be on the cover. I'm so thankful and just wanted to share some more of this spectacular day! Also, make sure you head over to check out White's gorgeous new website & directory. You'll see some more of my pics there too!! :) x

Special mentions have to go to the following people who helped make this day so special:

Tanya from Chic Artistry // Salli & Ken from McGowans B&B
